Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Dr Fatima Waziri – Azi, has described the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as a foremost intervention Organization and Development Partner with responsive programmes tailored towards giving hope to the survivors and eradication of human trafficking and all forms of exploitation.

She stated this while playing host to the outgoing IOM Chief of Mission in Nigeria, Mr. Frantz Celestin who visited the Headquarters as part of his valedictory activities.

Dr Fatima Waziri – Azi, stated that the outgoing IOM Chief of Mission can best be described as a dependable partner of Nigeria with amazing attributes which have earned him good reputation within the stakeholders including survivors of human trafficking in the Country.

“We as Agency of Government are appreciative of the enormous support and assistance from the IOM to the Nigeria Government through NAPTIP and precisely to our numerous survivors of human trafficking.

“IOM has intervened effectively in all thematic areas thereby complementing the efforts of the Agency in countering human trafficking in Nigeria”, the Director General said.

The NAPTIP Director General cited the support of IOM in the inauguration of State Task Forces on Human Trafficking in about 21 States of Nigeria, capacity development for Officers of the Agency and other partners as well as establishment of legal hub among others as some of the noble interventions of IOM and promised to sustain all projects and programmes initiated and supported by the Organization.

                                                     


Earlier, the outgoing IOM Chief of Mission, Mr. Frantz Celestin had commended the Director General for her open door policy which he said had made interaction and consultation on projects easy.

He lauded Officers of the Agency for their commitment and dedication to all issues relating to human trafficking and promised that his successor will continue to build on the existing relationship between NAPTIP and IOM.

The outgoing IMO Chief of Mission was posted to Nigeria six years ago.
