President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on
Wednesday said that the nation’s worst moment is over, reiterating that the
economy has turned the corner.
President Tinubu, who made
this known in his national broadcast to Nigerians in commemoration of the
country Independence Day anniversary on October 1st, said that at 65, Nigeria
has not strayed too far from the lofty dreams of the founding forebearers.
He noted that Nigeria has made
tremendous progress in economic growth, social cohesion, and physical
development, especially in foreign reserve, non–oil revenue, education, among
others.
He said, “While we may not
have achieved all the lofty dreams of our forebearers, we have not strayed too
far from them.
“In 65 years since our
Independence, we have made tremendous progress in economic growth, social
cohesion, and physical development. Our economy has experienced significant
growth since 1960.”
The President also used the
moment to once again call on Nigerians – urge the sub-national entities – to
join hands with his administration in the onerous task of nation-building.
“Let us be a nation of
producers, not just consumers. Let us farm our land and build factories to
process our produce. Let us patronise ‘Made-in-Nigeria’ goods. I say Nigeria
first. Let us pay our taxes.
“Finally, let all hands be on
deck. Let us believe, once more, in the boundless potential of our great
nation,” he added.
